Main Story:

As someone who played the original Spider-Man 2 game back on PS2, playing Insomniac’s Spider-Man was a dream come true. First things first, the web swinging, because what’s a Spider-Man game without web swinging? If Insomniac hadn’t managed to get that right, then they would have been in trouble. As the majority of the game is swinging through New York City going from one objective to the next, and I gotta say, it feels amazing. You actually feel the momentum and the gravity as you’re falling to the New York streets below. It’s without a doubt the best web swinging we have gotten in any Spider-Man game.

Another great thing about this game was the story. Insomniac wasn’t afraid to stray a bit from the source material while also staying true to the character of Spider-Man. One thing I personally really liked about this version is that this Peter Parker is not a high school student just starting out. Instead he’s a 23yo seasoned veteran at this point as he’s been Spider-Man for 8 years by the time we meet him. Along with his relationship with Mary Jane, it really makes for a more mature story than what we’re used to. All in all it’s definitely a game worth playing if you own a PS4. My rating would be 8/10.

Side Content:

While there is a lot of side content spread throughout New York City, most of it are collectibles, random crimes, or gang hideouts. Which after 40hrs of playing does start to get a bit repetitive. Definitely be prepared for a lot of combat if you’re hoping to get that Platinum.

DLC Content:

There are 3 different DLCs for Spider-Man (PS4) The Heist, Turf War, and Silver Lining. They all follow the same basic structure. Several new story missions, more gang hideouts, more random crimes, and the new screwball challenges. The screwball challenges involve following a specific amount of rules(i.e. combat, only using gadgets) to get the greatest score possible. All in all I’d say the DLCs aren’t terrible but they do become tedious if you intend to 100% them.
